Get Georgia Moving Coalition:
‘Momentum Is Building to Get Something Done’
Group Applauds Speaker and House Leaders
For Introducing Transportation Funding Legislation Today,
In Same Week as Senate Acted on Transportation

ATLANTA – The Get Georgia Moving Coalition, which represents more than 50 groups across Georgia, today applauded House Speaker Glenn Richardson and House leaders for introducing transportation funding legislation in the same week that Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Senate leaders also took action.

“The big news this week is that in short order, both the Senate and House introduced transportation funding bills – demonstrating their commitment to tackling this issue,” said Joe Leonard, chairman of AirTran Airways, chairman of the transportation policy committee of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the Get Georgia Moving Coalition. “There’s a real momentum building to get something done, and we are working with lawmakers in both houses of the General Assembly and the Governor to hammer out a final solution everyone can rally behind.”

Get Georgia Moving is a diverse group of business leaders, state and local government leaders, transit advocates, road builders and environmentalists. A partial list is below.

“The actions we’ve seen this week from both the Senate and House are a very positive sign,” said Charles Tarbutton, assistant vice president of Sandersville Railroad Company, chair of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the Get Georgia Moving Coalition. “Now we’re getting closer to getting something Georgia desperately needs – transportation funding solutions that are good for fast-growing regions and the state as a whole.”

The Get Georgia Moving coalition supports a referendum-based effort to raise more transportation funding to relieve congestion and promote economic development.

The coalition also supports efforts to optimize current revenue sources, invest in transit and transportation options and support innovative funding programs.
